“Our talents are the gift that God gives to us…What we make of our talents is our gift back to God.” -Leo Buscaglia
Here are a few of the ways our community is supported. Let us know if you’d like to be a part of the joy that is service.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
In the Bible, Sophie means wisdom.
There are so many people and places that we can visit and share the Gospel, so here at Prince of Peace we still have work to do.
Sophie interacts with people at churches, schools, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals and special events. Sophie is the door to bring the love of Jesus to those in need.

LCMS HEALTH MINISTRIES: In our ministry, we recognize that the real message in Christ’s healing miracles was in outcomes: Each healing was another announcement that the kingdom of Christ had come. Striving for health is the norm of the kingdom we entered at our baptism
MISSION STATEMENT:
Justified by grace and living the new life of Christ within us, we, LCMS Health Ministries, purpose – in the freedon of this new life – to pursue the norm of personal and corporate wholeness in the life of the church.
Goal 1: To establish health in all aspects of the person as the Christian norm.
Goal 2: To establish health as the corporate norm in the Christian community.
Goal 3: To provide encouragement to the church – individuals and corporate entities – to live toward the norm of whole-person health, empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Goal 4: To effect collaboration between the church and community health resources in the pursuit of health.
Goal 5: To provide to the church a ministry of care and support for individuals and families in illness and death.
Since its formation in 2008, assistance from fellow members includes:
“As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:10
“You created every part of me, knitting me in my Mother’s womb. For such handiwork, I praise you. Awesome is this great wonder.” Psalm 139:13-14
OUR MISSION:
The Prayer Shawl Ministry glorifies God as we knit (crochet),pray, gather, give and receive. The Shawl provides warmth and surrounds the receipent with love and compassion, symbolic of an unconditionally loving God.
In fall, 2008, the Prayer Shawl Ministry of our congregation began as an outreach program to its members. Shawls are now available by request not only for members, but also for friends, neighbors, coworkers and family members. Shawls are distributed by a personal visit by a member of AMOS,Prayer Chain,or Women’s Guild. Ten members have produced over 200 shawls, lap robes and baby afghans sets. All items are dedicated through a special blessing during a worship service.
HOW TO PARTICPATE:
The Board of Lay Ministry has proposed a committee be formed to research its proposal to create a position of “Outreach Worker.”
Mission Board’s spring project is to revise and assemble a New Member Booklet.
A FREE new Lenten yard sign is available. The two-sided sign: one to use in weeks leading up to Easter -For whom did Jesus go to the cross —U and the second to use after Easter – Christ is Risen.

Christ the King Lutheran School

Over the years, Pastor John Brazeal and Principal Geri Brazeal have workedwith the community to share the hope in Jesus Christ and give life-changing education to families in this low -income area of Chicago. For the past 50 years, Pastor John, Geri and the staff of CTK have impacted the lives of hundreds of children and their families, giving them hope, a purpose, and a future. Christ the King has a long history of teaching children their worth in Jesus and helping them to make positive decisions as they face the pressures of the inner city.
Ecc. 4:9, 10 -“Two are better than one. …For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.”

Stewardship is expressed by the willingness of Christians to take active responsibility in the service of the church through a voluntary contribution of time, money, and natural gifts. The key though is that stewardship means more than just the voluntary contribution of money. It means this, but it also means time and natural gifts. These gifts include vocations, passions, gifts, opportunities and talents of all kinds. Stewardship in its fullest sense then is the practice, expression, belief, study, etc., of offering one’s own time, money, and talents in service of others. In the sense of ministry, this is in service to God.
When you put these understandings of being a steward and an overall understanding of stewardship together, one’s view of relationship with God, creation, money, possessions and others is forever changed. It also requires a move beyond basic definitions to a deeper understanding. This is where we face questions about how we view money and resources. Do we believe that we live in a sense of abundance or scarcity? What does this mean for our faith and relationship with God? How about our understanding of scripture?
Stewardship is about how you understand yourself to be in relation with God. Do you understand God to be a generous loving God who has entrusted more into your care than you could ever deserve or exhaust? Or do you understand God as one who must be appeased by you diminishing your already scarce possessions through giving some to the church, because you really ought to? Is your relationship with God characterized by abundance or by scarcity?
Stewardship is also about how you understand yourself to be in relation with the rest of creation. Do you live so that you can make the lives of other people and the created order richer through encounters with you? Or do you live in competition with other people for a finite pool of resources? Is your life invested in others, or is your life invested in yourself?
Stewardship rightly understood is about money, but it is also about these very basic spiritual matters. The writers of the Bible understood that money and possessions have a distinct hold on our hearts and what we do with the money that God has entrusted to us has the capacity to affect not only us, but our neighbors and communities. The Bible invites us to use the money and possessions that God has entrusted to us to love our neighbors and by doing so enrich our relationship with God.
